Hello! I am popping in quickly tonight to share a few Presidents Day resources and a great freebie with you tonight!
First, my Abraham Lincoln Differentiated Biography Freebie is available HERE. This is a FREE mini close reading unit that includes a biography of President Lincoln written on 3 different levels. You are able to present all of your students the same information on their individual reading levels! As I tell my students “Easy, breezy, lemon-squeezy”. The text dependent questions and writing prompts are included so it is truly a free, “print and go” packet. 🙂
These Presidents Day Differentiated Close Reading Passages are perfect for grades 1-4. This packet includes informational text articles based on: Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama. Each article is offered on 3 different reading levels and has text dependent questions and writing prompts included. My first graders LOVED this unit last year! I am so, so mad at myself that I don’t have photos. We had so much fun learning about the presidents and writing our “interesting facts”. (*Note to self: Stop being the worst blogger ever! Take more photos! Share cute ideas in a timely matter!)
Okay, I have to share one more thing with you. I am so sorry if this post seems like a commercial. I hate commercials. Except THIS ONE.
This is the best commercial I have ever seen. Apparently it is from 7 years ago… that is hard to believe because I reference it weekly. Anyone who has ever spent time in a kindergarten classroom can relate. It makes me laugh SO HARD every. single. time.
Okay, so the one more thing… I saved the best for last! Here are my Presidents Day Posters:
These posters are full of fun facts about every American president. These are REALLY fun facts. Do you know which president had 2 pet raccoons that used to wander around the White House? Or which president proposed to his wife on their first date? 4 American presidents were college cheerleaders… can you name them? I promise you will have as much (or more!) fun with these posters as your students will.
I hung the entire set in our hallway last year and they were a huge hit! Everyone who walked down the hall stopped in my room to comment on a newly learned trivia fact. (It did not necessarily create the most uninterrupted learning environment… but we are a “go with the flow” kind of group so it was fun!) I KNOW I have a photo of our hall display somewhere… I am hunting for it… but there is a good chance I won’t find it before Presidents Day, so I am going to just update this post when I have it. (*Note to self: Seriously! Get better at this documenting things you are excited about so your blog isn’t totally lame.*)
I hope there was something here that will help to make your Presidents Day planning a little easier and a little more fun… and I hope you are one of the lucky ones who gets a day off on Presidents Day! (If you are one of the “lucky ones” know that I am jealous. Very jealous.)
